Closing date: July 28, 2010
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Information Governance Officer to join the Council’s Information Governance team. This role plays a key part in ensuring that the Council takes a robust, open and transparent approach to managing its information and meets its increasing obligations in this area.
This customer-oriented role includes: working with services across the Council to respond to public requests for information under the Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act and Environmental Impact Regulations; providing Information Security advice; delivering Information Governance training to services; and offering administrative support.
You will enjoy working with people and being a confident communicator and negotiator will help you to deal effectively with both customer needs and queries and with in-house services. You have strong attention to detail and are able to make and justify decisions informed by legal frameworks.
You will also work actively to support services in improving the management of their information, including via the website, enabling them to reduce the need for requests and to respond in a timely and balanced fashion to requests received.
You must be educated to ‘A’ Level or equivalent and have demonstrable experience in an office environment and dealing with the public, preferably Local Government.
Knowledge of Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation will be an advantage. However, training will be provided.
